Job Overview:

The Radiology Assistant works under the direction of the department Director, Manager, Supervisor, and/or team lead. The Radiology Assistant assists the technologists or radiologist with patient flow and procedures. This position is not permitted to perform diagnostic examinations on patients.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Hospital, radiology, and/or patient care experience required.
  • Familiarity with radiology and or medical terminology required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Proficient with creating and manipulating Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel

Preferred:

  • Certified Medical Assistant or currently enrolled in a radiology technologist program preferred.
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred, preferably within the radiology field
  • Typing skills, office routine familiarity, and strong knowledge of medical and radiology terminology strongly preferred,

Essential Functions:

Assists the technical staff with patient flow and procedures.

Maintains knowledge of designated procedure and protocols to assist the technologist or radiologist with the procedure including patient preparation.

Maintains knowledge of procedures, contraindications, and is able to accurately collect clinical information, necessary images and paperwork to acquire procedure approvals prior to scheduling.

Able to explain the procedures being performed to the patient

Obtain clinical information from the patient or referring physician for the scheduled procedure.

Schedules procedures per protocol.

Prepares trays and appropriate forms for procedures.

Knows the application and location of the supply items in the department.

Monitors supply stock and order supplies for procedures

Use of Radiology system, equipment and patient handling.

Understands and applies coordination skills to locate patient information and images using all current systems

May require heavy lifting of coils up to 30 lbs.

May require lifting patients for proper placement onto the examination table.

Handles all specimens per protocol.
