Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Operator
Department: EHSS
Location: Jackson
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Site WWTP Manager
The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, to ensure the efficient, safe, and economical treatment of wastewater, disposal of sludge and delivery of reclaimed water.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operating motors, pumps and valves to regulate flow of water.
Adjusting chemical dosage rates based on the results of water testing.
Monitoring plant SCADA system.
Adjusting controls to regulate flow rates and distribution of water.
Performing laboratory tests, including but not limited to: COD, TSS, VSS, VA/PA and pH.
Utilizing handheld instrumentation to collect measurements, including but not limited to oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and dissolved oxygen.
Keeping accurate records of charts and logs.
Performing routine data entry and updating charts using Microsoft Excel.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment and pumps.
Performs general cleaning of equipment and building.
Performs other duties as assigned by Site WWTP Manager or EHSS Manager.
Qualifications/ Education:
Able to work flex hours when needed, including weekends and holidays.
Self-starter needing little supervision.
Must be on call at all times for emergencies.
Knowledge of the principles of wastewater treatment.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plant components.
Knowledge of the mechanical, biological, and chemical processes involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
Ability to perform, analyze, and interpret laboratory tests for the purpose of making operational adjustments.
High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
Current Class I Wastewater Treatment Certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently; stand, bend and lift for a majority of shift and climb ladders and stairs.
1-3 years of water or wastewater treatment experience preferred.
