Rate : $50,000 - $55,000 per year
About the Role The Second Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent/Lead Assistant Superintendent. Under their supervision, the Second Assistant Superintendent will direct and participate in the chemical applications and agronomic planning of the course and associated grounds while also assisting with the maintenance of the golf course and grounds. This individual will perform applications while also supervising additional staff that may be performing similar tasks. The Second Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's/Lead Assistant's capacity during their absence.
Responsiblities: - Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of the property by scheduling work and supervising the employees and the use of the equipment
- Direct Reports include all hourly Grounds Maintenance team members
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; performs chemical and fertilizer applications; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. Including water management and irrigation setup
- Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify daily work schedule based on professional interpretation
- Performs routine safety inspections on all equipment
- Be able to read and interpret chemical labels and is responsible for keeping chemical and fertilizer application reports for the Golf Course Superintendent
- Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of maintenance facility work areas, storage areas, and equipment
- Assist with executing procedures and expediting workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations
- Locate and identify weeds or invasive plants and implement appropriate eradication and control measures
- Ensures the safe and proper operation of tools, vehicles and equipment; adheres to prescribed safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed
- Assists in the development and enforcement of policies, rules and regulations for the golf course
- May supervise various employee committees, as required and assigned
- Performs all other related tasks as deemed necessary by management
Requirements - Must be able to respond to emergency and after-hour calls on nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to read and write; ability to perform basic arithmetic
- Ability to perform calibration of sprayers and spreaders
- Knowledge of various chemicals and calibration of pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides in accordance with the prescribed safety and directions located in the label
- Must present a positive and professional image
- Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented
- Strong interpersonal, as well as written and verbal, communication skills
- Reliable and predictable attendance
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors; ability to work cooperatively with turf associates, other club department associates, membership, and guests
- Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion and to carry out assignments with minimal instructions
- Valid Driver's License
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software packages including Word, Excel, etc.
- Working knowledge of First Aid and applicable safety precautions
Physical Requirements: While performing the essential functions of this job, the Second Assistant Superintendent will frequently be required to lift, move, carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs. While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, odors, or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions including, but not limited, to dampness, wetness, or humidity; toxic or caustic substances; electrical current; excessive noise; grease and soil; and moving mechanical parts.
License or Certifications: Employee must obtain a GA pesticide application license within 6 months of hire.
Employee must obtain a Georgia EPD Class A and B certification for U.S.T within 12 months of hire.
