Nurse Supervisor compensation starts at $38/hour and increases with experience.
Williamsburg Landing, a CARF-accredited Life Plan Community, is seeking RN or LPN Shift Supervisors to provide leadership for our nursing staff and ensure quality care and positive interactions with residents and family members. This position reports to the Director of Nursing and serves as a member of the Nursing Department Management Team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supports the Nurse Educator's onboarding programs and staff training, monitoring performance for regulatory compliance and integrity of infection control policies, ensuring proper documentation is submitted to the electronic medical record in a timely manner, and addressing staff disciplinary issues; initiates clinical training when needed to ensure resident safety
- Supervises staff throughout Health & Rehab daily, ensuring information exchange during shift changes and appropriate work techniques are utilized; conducts stay interviews and completes performance evaluations and, when necessary, documents disciplinary actions
- Conducts rounds, paying close attention to residents' status and events noted on the 24-hour report who have experienced a change in condition; may round with providers as needed; ensures completion of communication with family members and/or providers, processes and documents resident status or events
- Assists with and supports staff scheduling needs as requested, acting as a floor nurse when necessary; documents unscheduled absences per policy and initiates arrangements for coverage as needed in conjunction with the Scheduler.
- Serves in the managerial call rotation to assist with after hour employee questions and staffing issues; if the staffing of either CNAs or Nurses is determined to be at a level which could potentially pose an unsafe environment for the residents or at the direction of the Director of Nursing or Healthcare Administrator, will come in to work the needed shift in the capacity of a CNA or RN/LPN regardless of the day and shift
- Assists with coordinating admissions, discharges and transfers, determining levels of care and ensuring smooth transitions; reviews admissions for accuracy and completeness to include medication reconciliation, completion of assessments and verification of orders; participates as available or in place of the DON, in the Interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss residents rehab status and discharge plans; corresponds with hospital case managers and reviews referrals to coordinate admissions
- Assists with planning and conducting monthly staff meetings; prepares for and attends resident care conference meetings; attends COR and QAPI Committee meetings; provides reports on assigned quality metrics
- Manages resident and/or family grievances and complaints and reports to the Director of Nursing and Social Work/Discharge Planner for follow up
- Manages/triages facility issues and takes appropriate action to resolve concerns; informs the Healthcare Administrator, Director of Nursing and appropriate Department Director(s) of issues/actions
- Conducts audits and prepares reports as requested by the Director of Nursing
- Assists in survey plans of correction as directed by the Director of Nursing
- Ensures that the worker's compensation process for staff incidents is completed thoroughly by the nursing team
- Performs all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in a post-acute setting and/or medical/surgical nursing
- One or more (1+) years of nursing supervision experience, preferred
- Infection Prevention & Control certification, preferred or required to be completed within 30 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and resident care standards, principles, and practices, with an emphasis on current trends in gerontological nursing
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with accepted methods and techniques necessary for optimal care
- Comprehensive knowledge of management, supervision, safety, emergency response and security practices and procedures
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and work effectively as a leader of a team to support the performance and development of nurses and aides
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to regularly and safely lift a minimum of 35 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods
