Job Description

Primary Function:
Prepare shells for the insertion of molten metal.

Tools and Equipment:
Preheat furnaces, pouring beds, SSCLA chambers, hoists, loading racks, test bar marking machine,
personal protective equipment .

Material:
Aluminum, copper and brass based alloys and additives, fiberglass pouring screens, ceramic shell
molds, nitrogen gas, ceramic fiber, argon gas, etc.

Direction of Others:
None

Working Procedure:
Under supervision by the Department Supervisor and the Melter on that pouring crew, the Puller -
Pourer shall
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.
1 Adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the Job Safety Card (JSC).
2 Shall consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
3 With the assistance of the Melter, arrange the daily pour schedule, loading shells in the preheat
ovens and load predetermined amounts of various base metals along with specified alloy additives
into melter weighing from 10# to 30#.
4 Remove the shells from the preheat furnace when ready, placing and securing them in the pouring
beds for insertion of the molten metal weighing anywhere from 10# to 100#. Anything over 50#
request help as needed.
5 Visually inspect all molds prior to pour for obvious cracks or defects which could cause the shells to
leak, and notifying the supervisor or the Melter of such.
6 Steady the shell during the actual pour, holding the pouring filter in place until the pour is completed.
7 Transfer shells from the pouring beds to cooling carts using proper lifting techniques and the hoist.
8 Successfully complete forklift training if required to attend.
9 Shall maintain all records and vouchers in a clean and orderly condition, where accuracy is
paramount.
10 Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
11 Successfully attend and complete training in the proper techniques of lifting.
12 Attend and successfully complete lockout / tagout training.
13 Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
14 Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
Must be able to tolerate the severe, seasonal, temperature demands of the job, including intense heat
in the summer, especially around the preheat ovens and the melters, and cold, damp conditions in the
winter months.

Special Skills Required:
Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the job.
Use the hoist when possible.
No formal educational achievements required.
