**Duties**
** Summary**
The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services Division, Painting Branch. The Painting Branch is seeking an experience journey-level Painter-Decorator.
**Responsibilities**
Tour of duty is Day shift. Duty hours will range from 5:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

**Major Duties Include**
Surface Preparation
Uses specialized skills and knowledge to prepare decorative surfaces or artwork for painting or restoration.
Scrapes, sands, uses hand tools or applies paint remover to rooms, corridors, stairwells, trim and other building surfaces to remove old paint. Removes old wallpaper with steam strippers. Plaster or spackle small holes and cracks. Applies prime coats. Uses resins and plastic compounds to prepare doors, baseboards, floors and interior trim in rooms to be refinished. Uses tape, cement, special perforated tape or other rough compounds to create smooth and even surfaces, levels out dents and glazes surfaces with pre-coating agents. Prepares interior and exterior plaster, metal, wood and masonry surfaces.
May erect scaffolding, swing stage, aerial work platforms or set-up ladders to work above ground level. Covers floors and non-movable furniture with drop cloths.
Painting and Decorative Work
Performs intricate painting and decorative work requiring skill to restore decorative surfaces. Uses brushes, spray guns, rollers or other equipment to apply paint, varnish, wallpaper and other elaborate finishes (i.e. stenciling, color glazing, gilding, marbling, lettering, striping, stippling and graining) to walls, doors, windows, baseboards, floor, trim and other surfaces of buildings; and wood and metal objects, equipment in order to shield, uphold, garnish or refurbish them. Uses special finishing techniques such as sponging, ragging, layering or faux painting. Refinishes and/or finishes new walnut and mahogany doors, metal doors and cabinets etc. to match historical natural wood finishes within Capitol Complex.
Picks and blends paints and other coating materials. Matches colors and textures to historic finishes where exact matching with prior finish is necessary.
Utilizes a thorough knowledge of and complies with AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
