Are you searching for challenging work in the field of networking technologies?

Do you enjoy learning about and modernizing complex communication systems to support national security?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to help us understand existing government networked systems, perform analyses of alternative solutions, and help advocate for modern, inter-operable communication and network systems. As a member of our team, you will work across multidisciplinary teams to address system-level challenges that are at the intersection of network technology, software architecture, and systems engineering. Your work will meaningfully contribute to sophisticated and critical systems in support of national security. We strive to foster an environment of collaboration, innovation and application... and we would love to have you on our team!

As a Network Systems Engineer, you will...

  • Lead a variety of systems engineering activities for existing and future communications systems from concept development through engineering development and operations and maintenance.
  • Analyze system-level behaviors and system of systems interactions and recommend improvements to support communications missions.
  • Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Interact with technical specialists in other fields as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have at least ten years of relevant experience engineering DoD network and software systems of systems.
  • Are proficient in detailing network, software, and system designs through interface control documents, system description documents, capability description documents, and other system artifacts.
  • Are familiar with foundational computer networking technology such as routers, switches, and security appliances.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, up to 10%.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Possess a Master's degree or PhD in information technology/science, computer science, electrical/computer engineering, or another related technical field.
  • Have at least twenty years of experience engineering DoD network systems of systems.
  • Have knowledge of planning and acquisition processes for DoD communication systems.
  • Are proficient with model-based system engineering tools to support systems engineering analysis.
  • Are able to describe operation of key inter-networking and network security protocols and understand how interaction between the layers affect system performance.
  • Have experience with software engineering processes and approaches.
  • Have leadership or hands-on experience involving operational DoD networks and communication systems.
