Position Summary As a member of the White Plains Hospital Office of Facilities Planning & Design, the Interior Designer will assist the Assistant Director of Planning & Interiors on maintaining/updating hospital standards, developing design projects and tracking the progress and quality of construction drawings, projects and existing spaces. Together, the team will work to create a consistent design aesthetic across all areas of the campus and offsite properties. They will track, document, coordinate and procure aspects of the interior design, including furniture, art, signage and other vendors necessary in the development and procurement of FF&E. In this role you will assist the A. Director of Planning & Interiors in the development of projects such as the hospital environment refresh program, staff relocations, furniture installations, design projects and document control.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: - Reports to the A. Director of Planning &Interiors
- Develops preliminary floors plans in CAD to include equipment and furniture placement
- Interviews stakeholders/user groups to understand flow, process and staff size in order to design/recommend space solutions.
- Documents meeting discussions via Meeting minute format
- Works in the E-Builder system as necessary for document controls
- Maintains/Updates and utilizes the Project Request Log.
- Research, Order and oversee development of materials library and assist in updating Interior Library
- Assist/Maintain/develop the standards for Interiors, FF&E, signage and art.
- Instruct vendors to create proposals related to construction, art, FF&E and signage
- Tracks, Schedules and Monitors furniture process from specification to punchlist/warranty
- Tracks, Schedules and Monitors Signage packages from specification to punchlist/warranty
- Creates Project lookbook binders for turnover to Engineering, Site management and OPM.
- Complies required DOH documents as it relates to Interiors and FF&E for DOH binders.
- Works with Project Management and the End Users to schedule furniture installations and is able to communicate impacts to the user and manage user expectations.
- Be able to work independently on their own Project Studies with some guidance from the Assistant Director of Planning & Interiors, by interviewing users to develop space and finish plans. Be able to understand and ask questions about flow, form and function to help bring it to fruition. Developing your own work plans, providing drawings or renderings and other materials necessary to communicate design concepts and execution.
- Meet with Architects to evaluate project finishes and verify WPH guidelines are being followed.
- Assist Assistant Director of Planning and Interiors with in-house design projects by creating finish boards and PowerPoint presentations for final sign offs.
- Organizes files, materials and displays as needed.
- Preforms site surveys, field verification and test fit plans.
- Conducts research (i.e., conceptual, site, end user, materials) for the project team.
- Assists with the development of interiors concepts based on WPH vision, desire, project scope and architectural concept.
- Participates in schematic design activities, including making adaptations and modifications and assisting other designers in specific aspects of overall design.
- May assist with review of RFIs and submittals during the Construction Administration Phase
- May be responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to incorporate all information into project requirements.
- Participates in team meetings and provides creative solutions as necessary.
- Recognizes the financial aspect of a project and basic accounting principles involved in ensuring the projects budget and schedule is met.
- May complete and evaluate information from Post occupancy surveys.
- Provide daily/weekly updates of progress to meet target deadlines.
- Performs other duties as requested by senior management.
Education & Experience Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in healthcare project management and design.
- Prior experience in furniture and art planning and procurement
- Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
- Experience with software such as Smart sheet, Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, InDesign and 3D modeling software preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite required.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment - May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
