Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company's sole discretion and the wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At SNAHC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $17.00-$23.00/HR.
Position Summary: The Health Information Technician (HIT) reports to the HIT Manager and is responsible for the daily management of medical/dental/behavioral health patient records: compile, process and make accurate health records available to authorized entities in accordance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. (SNAHC). The HIT takes an active role within the HIT Department to develop effective utilization of the computerized record management system, electronic methods of sending and receiving information, and employs multiple applications for tasks throughout the workday.
Essential Functions: - Scans and indexes documents into the NextGen Document Management system in a timely, accurate and organized manner as required by SNAHC policy.
- Collects patient health records from patient care providers and other departments as needed.
- Maintains neatly assembled health records in a pre-established standardized order as defined in the policy and procedure manual.
- Performs analysis of patient health records for accuracy, completeness, appropriate signatures and dates in a timely manner to ensure compliance with SNAHC policy and procedures and established regulatory agency requirements.
- Answers incoming calls in a prompt and professional manner; assists the caller with Health Information related requests, takes messages for or transfers the call to the appropriate department if not HIT related.
- Monitors electronic FAX server and processes all incoming faxes quickly and accurately.
- Coordinate and responds to requests for patient information from patients, physicians, other healthcare providers, insurance companies and lawyers.
- Ensures all releases of PHI are recorded in the PHI Log in NextGen.
- Verifies releases are in accordance with State and Federal laws.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all Federal and State regulations regarding HIPAA, Protected Health Information (PHI) and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems and software used by SNAHC.
- Functions effectively as an HIT team member, maintains good working relationships with all other departments. Assists team members when needed.
- Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; HIPAA, sexual harassment, Scope of Practice, OSHA etc.

Skills and Abilities: - Customer Service Background
- Excellent computer skills, preferably with Windows, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent telephone and communication skills
- Must possess excellent organizational, writing, and verbal skills.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and work well under pressure.
- Ability to type 30 wpm preferred as well as experience with data-entry.

Minimum Qualifications: - High school graduate or GED.
- Experience with patient health records.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records
- Ability to bend, stoop and lift up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: - Relevant, active certifications (i.e., Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) etc.)
- Experience with Nextgen or other electronic health record system
- Experience in an FQHC setting
- Knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of the diverse AI/AN community, as well as ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethnically, and financially diverse populations.
