Snelling is currently recruiting a well-qualified Head Start Office Clerk to work in an environment assisting with clerical and administration duties. The Clerk position follows clearly detailed specific procedures in completing several clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as coding and filing documents in an extensive alphabetical file; it could involve simple posting to individual accounts, opening mail, calculating and posting charges to departmental accounts, operating basic office equipment, computer programs.

The payrate for this opening is $13-15/hr, depending on experience, with a 1st shift schedule.

Primary Responsibilities for Head Start Office Clerk:

  • Supports accounting operations by reconciling statements, paying bills, working with vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintains vendor contracts, running an in-house software accounting program.
  • Works with vendors and suppliers to ensure up-to-date contracts and proper billing.
  • Enter the daily attendance into childplus, print reports monthly.
  • Weekly attendance reports for the Board of Education (BOE), if applicable.
  • Enter the CCR payments into the Procare program and add the families and deactivate the families into the Procare system as needed.
  • Basic office helps by answering phones, translating for teachers and parents, checking mail daily and distributing accordingly, filing documents into master binders and child files, greet parents when they come in and assist them when needed.
  • Type up newsletter, flyers, translations of documents if applicable.

Requirements for Head Start Office Clerk:

  • High school diploma. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ general office assistant experience required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, using MS Office applications and other basic data systems including internet navigation.
