Job Title: Director, Software Engineering

DIRECTV, LLC is seeking a Director, Software Engineering in El Segundo, CA [and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.; may work from home] to supervise a team of more than 150 employees and contractors in the software development group responsible for the delivery of IT-related work on the directv.com web application.

The responsibilities include:

1. Providing a clear vision and facilitating the execution of a results-driven software development process focused on speed, quality, customer experience, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and business growth.
2. Identifying business and technical issues associated with projects, risk mitigations, handling escalations, and resolving major impediments.
3. Ensuring effective work planning through participation in Program Increment pre-planning and planning events, and assuring appropriate team participation in agile ceremonies.
4. Working closely with respective leads, business/product peers, and project management groups to identify resource needs for the SCRUM teams based on demand, budget, and schedule.
5. Managing expense budget, estimating funding, and ensuring capital projects are delivered within budget.
6. Building a high-performance team by hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring leads and managers, while promoting top-performing employees and developing action plans for performance improvement.
7. Identifying training opportunities for employees and evaluating individual performances on a quarterly and annual basis.
8. Providing performance feedback and holding vendor teams accountable to performance standards for development and delivery management processes.
9. Providing status updates to leadership teams, escalating blocking issues, and liaising with business partners as needed.
10. Managing large-scale and multi-national development efforts in a multi-vendor environment.

Supervision of: one Principal, System Engineer 1, three Principal, IT Software Engineer 1, and one Principal, Software Engineer 2.

Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered, or 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation involving:

1. Working with leadership and various teams to provide a clear vision and facilitate the execution of a results-driven software development process.
2. Identifying resource needs for SCRUM teams based on demand, budget, and schedule.
3. Building a high-performance team through hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring.
4. Managing large-scale and multi-national development efforts in a multi-vendor environment.
