About the Role The Digital Website Content Writer will play a key role in the development and enhancement of the State of Connecticut's websites and digital assets. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to create impactful content for web pages, digital applications, chatbots, user guides, and other customer-facing materials. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in content structure, copywriting, user-focused design, SEO, service design, and content optimization to enhance the overall customer journey. You will be responsible for assessing customer needs and crafting content that aligns with user expectations and business objectives. Your work will help optimize digital experiences by making sure the content is clear, effective, and accessible.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development and Strategy

:

Create high-quality, user-centric content for websites, digital applications, chatbots, and other customer-facing platforms. Develop and execute content strategies that align with business goals, stakeholder objectives, and user needs. Work with stakeholders to establish content taxonomies and optimize user journeys. Align content with modern content standards, including SEO and user-centered design principles.

SEO & Analytics

:

Conduct keyword research and develop SEO strategies to improve SERP rankings and drive web traffic. Implement on-page and technical SEO techniques to improve visibility and engagement. Track content effectiveness using KPIs, analytics tools, and customer feedback.

Content Lifecycle Governance

:

Audit and categorize content to ensure it meets user needs, business goals, and accessibility standards. Work with subject matter experts to ensure clarity and accuracy in all written content. Establish governance processes to maintain content quality and relevance over time.

Collaboration and Communication

:

Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate content into web and digital projects. Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns. Lead content reviews and collaborate on revisions to ensure consistency and quality.

Experience & Skills Required Website Content Writing

(3+ years of experience):

Proven experience in creating modern content for large, complex websites with diverse departments and services. Ability to create content strategies with a focus on logical taxonomies, user journeys, and human-centered design. Proficient in developing content for various digital assets including web pages, chatbots, and guides. Strong copywriting skills, with an ability to motivate users to take action. SEO & Analytics

(3+ years of experience):

Experience with keyword research, SEO strategy development, and using industry best practices to boost traffic and improve search rankings. Familiarity with Google's EAT (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) guidelines and other SEO standards. Ability to analyze and track content performance, optimizing for business goals and user needs. Content Lifecycle & Governance

(3+ years of experience):

Strong ability to identify content gaps, optimize content for accessibility and usability, and ensure compliance with relevant standards. Experience working with subject matter experts to create plain-language, user-friendly content. Ability to create governance models that support long-term content quality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Content Management & Writing

:

Proficient in CMS platforms (e.g., Sitecore or similar). Strong copywriting and editing abilities for diverse audiences and platforms. Ability to develop content for various digital channels, including marketing, SEO, and user experience.

Technical Skills

:

Experience with SEO tools and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, SEO audit tools). Familiarity with digital content standards and accessibility guidelines. Ability to work with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Jira).

Interpersonal Skills

:

High emotional intelligence, effective communication, and ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure environments. Ability to distill complex concepts into simple, understandable content.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in

Sitecore 10.2

or a similar CMS. Bachelor's degree in

UX Design, Web Design, Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism , or a related field. 3+ years of experience

writing website content for a company or institution in a full-time, project-driven role. Familiarity with

chatbots, search consoles, and helpdesk services . Experience with

Salesforce ,

Google Analytics (preferably GA4) , and

Power BI . Portfolio of published content

demonstrating expertise in content strategy, SEO, and user-focused design. Certification in content strategy or related disciplines.

Administrative Considerations

The Digital Website Content Writer will be part of an enterprise-level digital service team and will collaborate on multiple website improvement projects using agile sprints. Work assignments will align with the project backlog and may evolve as the project progresses. The position will require full-time commitment (8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday), with remote work available, subject to approval by the Chief Digital Officer or designated manager. All work will be on a time-and-materials basis, with compensation based on hours worked.

HIPAA . A confidentiality agreement will be required, along with a background check. An access badge may be required while working in state facilities.
