Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon (PPSO) has been dedicated to providing expert reproductive health care and sexuality education in Southwestern Oregon for over 55 years. PPSO provides more than 30,000 patient visits each year at four health centers and via telehealth. PPSO is also regarded as the region’s most respected provider of medically accurate sexuality education for young people and adults, as well as training programs for professionals who work with youth and families. Education and training programs make over 10,000 contacts each year, transforming the lives of young people in southwestern Oregon.

PPSO’s essential health services include breast and cervical cancer screenings, well-woman annual exams, birth control, abortion care, LGBTQ+ health, STI prevention, testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis), HPV vaccinations, vasectomies, and more.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Education Program Manager, the Community Educator implements comprehensive sexual and reproductive health programs for youth and adults around Southwestern Oregon, providing educational presentations, outreach, and program coordination.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with the PPSO Education Team to develop and deliver quality education programs and outreach materials on sexuality, reproductive health, and Planned Parenthood services.
  • Review and adapt teaching style, curricula, and outreach materials to meet the varying needs of the community, ensuring an age appropriate and culturally responsive approach.
  • Strive to promote a safe space that has high warmth, high expectations, and high structure.
  • Maintain culturally and age-appropriate boundaries across areas such as self-disclosure, relationships, communication, confidentiality, language, respect, behavior, and beliefs.
  • Be available as a resource person, helping individuals seeking information and services related to sexuality, sexual health, and related issues.
  • Assist in managing the youth leadership program, including participant recruitment, facilitating education & training, planning events, and conducting community outreach.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of activities and collect statistical information as requested.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of related topics, education techniques, community resources, agency protocols, referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The person in this role must be available to work up to 19 hours per week for a period of 15 weeks, beginning in February 2025.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of related work/volunteer experience (e.g., teaching, facilitating group learning, working with youth or families, or coordinating programs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Education, Social Work or related field.
  • B.S./B.A. in Education, Social Work or other related fields.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience working directly with historically and systemically oppressed communities.
  • Previous experience with Planned Parenthood affiliates.
  • Demonstrated experience with sexuality and sex education content.
  • Experience in outreach or fieldwork.
