Job Description
Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee is seeking an experienced barista to craft beautiful coffee for the Atlanta community. LTH Coffee is a seed-to-cup company that collaborates directly with Rwandan coffee farmers, operates two washing stations in-country, roasts in Atlanta, and serves the community through multiple cafes across the US. What sets an LTH “Coffee & Social” apart is in addition to specialty coffee we serve crafts cocktails, beer, wine, and food while inviting the community to enjoy live music and other social events.
Position Summary
Baristas offer outstanding customer service through friendly courteous communication, excellent product knowledge, and superior barista skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operations:
● Adheres to all company policies, protocols, and practices, both behind the bar and at the front of house, including cash handling and safety
● Maintains a clean and organized workspace so that fellow shift team members and other team members can locate resources and products quickly
● Ensures appropriate representation of the company brand through maintaining a clean, well-organized, and appropriately stocked coffee bar
● Actively monitors inventory and upholds company standards through appropriate displaying and rotation of company merchandise and store products
● Offers relevant, informed ideas and suggestions for improving operations and service
● Adheres to the company’s dress code and health and safety requirements
● Actively keeps all work areas and equipment clean and ready for the next order. Tidies merchandise area, performs inside and outside sweeps to collect used dishes, tidy, and address customer needs, and restocks supplies during quieter times
Drink Quality/Education:
● Prepares and serves coffee and tea beverages as well as food items according to established company routines and ensures they consistently reflect the LTH quality and presentation standards
● Actively maintains knowledge on current LTH coffee offerings and confidently and accurately shares product information with customers
● Actively participates in coffee and tea tastings to further product knowledge and help identify potential issues and deficiencies
● Educates customers and store staff in training on all LTH coffees on offer
● Actively shares knowledge and assist in training and development of new staff
● Demonstrate interest in an ongoing pursuit of education, training, and specialty coffee industry trends
● Attends training sessions designed to further education and knowledge on coffee, tea, merchandise, and espresso bar skills
● Completes required training modules (outlined in the Training Manual); pursues completion of additional training modules
Customer Engagement:
● Consistently greets customers in a friendly, courteous, and enthusiastic manner as they enter the premises; Engages customers in a pleasant manner and serves them in an expedient manner; Thanks customers for their patronage as they leave the premises.
● Responds to questions, orders, and concerns in a patient, open, confident, and positive manner
● Engage customers about their drink preferences and tailor suggestions accordingly
● Facilitate easy dialogue with customers regarding other product offerings, including whole bean coffee, tea, complimentary food offerings, merchandise, as well as any current promotions
● Takes drinks to customers during quiet times in an effort to provide individual service and opportunities for engagement
● Interacts with customers and addresses their needs while performing inside and outside sweeps to tidy and collect used dishes.
Coffeebar Initiatives:
● Participates in store-wide sales and fundraising initiatives
● Offers strategic input and informed suggestions with regards to increasing store profitability
● Demonstrates independent initiative in carrying out routine tasks
Job Requirements Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), along with relevant experience in the specialty coffee, retail, hospitality, and/or customer service industries
Qualifications:
● ServSafe or other food handlers, bartenders permit is a plus
● Ability to maintain a pleasant courteous disposition and sense of urgency in serving customers
● Demonstrate an active interest in and passion for specialty coffee and service
● Ability to engage in positive and productive interactions/relationships with customers, coworkers, and leadership
● Ability to problem solve in a constructive, methodical, and logical manner
● Flexible and able to multitask under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding, and intense environment
● Maintain a calm and patient demeanor during periods of high volume
● Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team
● Ability to communicate with customers and coworkers in a positive and clear manner. Demonstrates ability to receive and offer constructive feedback aimed at maintaining high quality to service
● Ability to use available resources to answer customer inquiries
● Consistently regular and punctual in attendance Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
● Strong cash handling skills
● Language Skills Ability to read and speak English proficiently
