Biological Science Laboratory Technician at Agricultural Research Service in Hagerman, Idaho, United States Job Description Summary This position is located within Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area, at the Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research Unit in Hagerman, ID. In this position, you will identify the work to be done to fulfill project requirements and objectives, planning and carrying out the procedural and technical steps required, seeking assistance as needed and independently coordinating work efforts regarding fish. Responsibilities Maintains inventory of chemicals, stock solutions, etc. Prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory or field. Disposes of waste material (both chemical and biological). Participates in one or more phases of the biological research by performing a variety of complex technical duties, in a laboratory or field environment. Searches for literature pertinent to animal physiology or water quality for new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory or field. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-7: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is assisting in an experiment or research project related to biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or microbiology; collecting or evaluating biological samples in a laboratory environment; recording or analyzing scientific data; and operating or maintaining laboratory equipment. OR Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. OR A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
