This position is responsible for taking orders from customers, preparing specialized coffee drinks, serving doughnuts and handling customer payment, while contributing success of the café environment, by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses a “Guest First” decision making process in prioritizing duties.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service.
  • Has a positive attitude and creates a rapport with customers.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Exhibits a high level of product knowledge, including ingredient and allergen information; answers customers’ questions.
  • Takes orders from customers and handles customer payment transactions.
  • Prepares coffee-related drinks, including espresso, in alignment with Top Pot’s recipe and quality standards.
  • Displays and serves doughnuts, pastries, sandwiches and bottled beverages etc.
  • Observes and restocks inventory levels; communicates product supply needs to supervisor.
  • Cleans espresso machine, and maintains clean and sanitary work and service areas.
  • Cleans and ensures cleanliness of bathrooms and dining area – busses tables, empties trash, washes dishes, scrub and wipe bathrooms, sweeps and mops floors.
  • Counts money, makes change, balances cash drawers and is responsible for accurate cash handling.
  • Practices food safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Adheres to Top Pot policies, procedures and training guidelines.
  • Position may or may not hold a key to the café.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a customer focused, customer first, attitude.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn P.O.S. system for cashiering duties.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • A food handler’s permit is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment
  • Detail oriented
  • Clear communication skills
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume.

Work Environment: The work environment is a typical coffee shop setting and this position is constantly working in front of a large espresso machine. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees working at a café with a drive thru may be exposed to both heat and cold (weather related). Safe use of common cleaning agents, such as bleach, can be expected. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
