Job Description

American Products, Inc. (API) manufactures architectural metal products from our facilities in West Tampa / Oldsmar, FL. Our customers include national accounts like Coopers Hawk Restaurants, Tire Kingdom, Chipotle and indoor mall chains like Gucci, Burberry, and so many more. We also complete work for many local projects in the Tampa Bay area. For example, we designed and produced all of the custom sunshades / canopies in central Hyde Park.

We are hiring an AutoCAD Drafter preferably with experience in the commercial construction and/or manufacturing industries. However, we will train motivated candidates with 2+ years of hands-on cad experience on all of our products if you do not have prior related industry experience. Engineering experience is a plus but not required. Division 8 (Glass and Glazing / Fenestration) and/or Division 5 and Division 10 (canopies, sunshades, sun control, bathroom partitions, bathroom accessories, etc.) experience are a plus.

Our AutoCAD Drafter will create detailed shop drawings and fabrication drawings for a wide variety of products such as storefronts, curtain wall, doors, canopies, railings, sunshades, metal panel systems like ACM, custom metal products, and more. Experience with Division 8, Division 5 and Division 10 experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create detailed shop drawings and fabrication drawings for storefront glazing products, metal products such as storefront, canopies, doors, brake metal, ACM (aluminum composite panel materials), railings etc. (note - will train motivated candidates with AutoCAD experience).
• Analyze and interpret architectural plans to create our product details.
• Perform material take-offs as needed from the shop drawings and fabrication drawings and create detailed list of materials needed.
• Work very closely with our project managers and production managers on each project.
• Work on new product development and design as required.
• Create standard details to be used by internal teams and our clients.
• Maintain detailed library of drawings, details and more.

Key Qualifications for our AutoCAD Drafter:

• 2+ years AutoCAD experience in construction/building materials/manufacturing industry preferred.
• 2+ years drafting experience in AutoCAD and/or Engineering.
• Prior architectural metals, storefront, glazing / fenestration, canopies, awnings, etc. experience a plus, but not required.
• Knowledge of various types of architectural building materials such as Storefront systems, Canopies, Awnings, ACM, Handrail, Doors, Asset Protection, Restroom Partitions & Accessories, Division 8, Division 10 and/or Division 5, etc. a plus, but not required.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Must have very strong computer skills.
• Engineering background a definite plus, but not required!
• Architectural experience a definite plus.
• Bluebeam, Sketchup, and/or Revit experience a plus but not required.
• Must enjoy working on a variety of different project types.
• Prior experience with storefront, fenestration, glazing, canopies, ACM, a plus but not required.
